Switch to Safe, Non Toxic Products! The best thing that anyone can do is to stop using products containing toxins.. Stop pouring toxic chemicals on your body, putting toxins in your body, and poison on your lawns and gardens. Do as much research as possible and try over time to change to natural, safe products (baking soda, vinegar, bon ami, salt). Big boxes of baking soda are sold at places like Sam's club and Costco. Don't force yourself to do it all at once, it is definitely a process that may take a few months. A good book to start in this process is a book called HOME SAFE HOME By Debra Lynn Dadd. It offers many alternatives to pesticides, shampoos, soaps, detergents, cosmetics and it can save you a lot of money not only in cancer or other disease treatment but in everyday cleaning. Look at the ingredients on your favorite personal care product or cleaner and look them up on the MSDS Where to Find MSDS on the Web or Household Products MSDS. You will be surprised at what you find. Some MSDS are only available by calling an 800 # which I found strange. I called on a product and was given the run around, and transferred to several different departments. Eventually I got someone who said they would fax it to me, but never did. They also ask you a bunch of questions to make you feel as if your not authorized as a consumer to see the MSDS. Don't let them do this to you. Be persistent! We as consumers have a right to see the information about the hazards of a chemical we use in our homes. They steam the dirt off almost anything and it wipes right off with a rag. The hot steam kills all bacteria and viruses. You can buy a hand held one for $50 or one that can steam your floors also. Here is a hand held model at Amazon.com called the Euro Pro Mini Steam Zapper. There are many other brands and types. Some of them are larger and clean floors as well. Sears sells one called the steam shark. Also, tell others about what your doing and why. The word needs to be spread. Why do consumers pay these big chemical corporations for cancer and other diseases. It is a very backwards world we live in! Many products contain known cancer and disease causing ingredients. People need to keep in mind that bugs are the heartiest species on the planet. If a nuclear holocaust occurred bugs would be the only species to survive! If this doesn't tell us how deadly and harmful pesticides need to be to actually kill a bug, and many bugs are becoming resistant to the poisons we spray. Many pesticides act as neurotoxins which kill a bug by making its nerve signals fire extremely fast and they can have the same effect on humans. When nerves fire too fast nervousness, agitation, and mania can occur. Is this why pesticides are also being linked to mental illnesses. Garlic spray and vinegar can be used as a bug repellant by spraying it on plants in your garden and it will not harm humans. Also gardening and planting the way our ancestors did by planting certain plants next to each other that work together to keep your garden looking good and pest free. Stop Using Perfume. Perfume contains toxic ingredients that cause all kinds of damage. The EPA did research on perfumes in products and found many toxins that aren't listed on the label. They aren't required to be listed on the labels due to Trade Secrets. All a company has to do is list the word perfume on the label and any number of dangerous scent chemicals can be used in that product, some which cause cancer, central nervous system damage, asthma, liver and kidney damage...... Try to use natural medicines. Many prescription drugs contain unnecessary ingredients such as food dyes, preservatives, and fillers which can cause a variety of reactions, not to mention the horrible side effects of the medicines themselves. Many over the counter medicines contain ingredients not on the label. They are only required to list the active ingredients. Also, big pharmaceutical companies can't patent natural medications, thus the monetary incentive lies in making synthetic medications they can patent and make big money, rather than supporting natural medicine. However, there is a movement for pharmaceutical companies to patent herbs by changing their chemical structure slightly. When will the madness end?? If society switched to all natural, safe products, disease rates would drop, and reliance on prescription medications would drop drastically. Look at all the commercials for pharmaceuticals. It seems there is a commercial every few minutes, some in succession. I worked in social work for over 5 years with people who had many physical and mental problems. It was awful to watch these people be pumped full of meds and watch them continue to deteriorate. The doctors would prescribe one med, and then to mask the side effects they would prescribe another medicine, over and over until they were on so many meds they couldn't function anymore. They became zombies. Medicare was paying for all these medications. Then to get off a medicine is very difficult due to withdrawal. This makes the pharmaceutical companies happy. The dominant paradigm with medicine is that the answer is in a pill. A pill is prescribed and it only masks symptoms, it doesn't cure the person. It is analogous to a cave with water coming out of many holes. When you plug one hole, the water just comes out another hole or another hole is created. Also, a major conflict of interest is some pharmaceutical companies give doctors gifts to prescribe their medicines. Start an activist group in your area or join one! Start a group with friends and neighbors to work on eliminating dangerous chemicals. Most communities have a hazardous waste day at the dump where you can bring all your cleaners, personal products, paints, and solvents. It is amazing to see the people who work these hazardous waste days in full protective gear as they take these products yet we are told by the media and government that they are safe for our homes.
Buy Organic Food. Buying conventional food supports pesticides. Buying organic supports safe, healthy foods and the more people that buy organic food, the more it will become available and lower in price. When consumers spend money it is like casting a vote. Also, conventional foods have many toxic additives that cause disease. Consumers can look many of them up in the book A Consumer's Dictionary of Food Additives. Many of the additives listed are not only in food, but cosmetics, personal products, and pharmaceuticals.. This book is an excellent resource to learn which products are toxic. I was also told by a natural product company that if consumers ask their local grocery stores to carry some natural detergents and cleaners that they will. Sometimes it only takes a couple of people to ask a store manager and you will start seeing organic food and safe products on the shelves. Don't Always Believe TV Commercials! TV is brainwashing society to think that toxins are natural and ok for us. If you see commercials for detergents, perfumes, air fresheners (should be called air poisoners), etc. the manufacturers want you to associate them with nature. Therefore they show footage of beautiful mountains and streams. Many of these companies want you to think they are family oriented as well, and that they are helping you. Giving people cancer and other diseases is not helping them!!
Write a Letter To Your Senator MCS still needs to have a case definition created so that doctors have a criteria for diagnosis. Without this case definition by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), and Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), MCS will continue to receive no funding for research and doctors will continue to have no criteria by which to diagnose the condition, thus making MCS nonexistent.
